Dear Sakhyam friends,

Greetings with love!

Celebration of the divine birth has adorned December with a unique charm. Life itself is a totality of journeys. Life attains meaning only when the journeys are in search of the Good News. The journeys connected with the event of Nativity become significant because all of them ended before the Saviour himself. This is also the time of lent. While abstaining from many things externally, we should also be able to attain certain things internally.

On November 12, Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Theethos Tirumeni inaugurated the harvest of the plantain cultivation done under the auspices of MYSDA in Parackathanam. “Journey of Three Kings,” a musical drama, was staged in Kottarakara Jubilee Mandiram premises under the leadership of the youth, and it was a new experience for everyone. Our gratitude towards Mr. Santhosh George Joseph, the co-ordinator of the programme; Rt. Rev. Euyakim Mar Koorilos Episcopa, who gave permission for the conduct of the event and encouraged its successful completion; the office-bearers of the diocese; Rev. Mathew Baby, the Superintendent of the Mandiram; office bearers of Yuvajana Sakhyam Kottarakara-Punalur diocese; Sakhyam workers; and the youth who attended the programme knows no bounds.

The mini marathon from Maramon Mar Thoma Church to Tiruvalla St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, conducted on December 1st as part of AIDS Day celebrations under the auspices of the Sports and Games committee was the first of its kind in the church. Our gratitude towards Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa and Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa is duly recorded here.

The calendar for 2019, printed in multicolour, has been made available for distribution. Respected achens and Sakhyam workers are requested to ensure that every family of our church do receive a copy of the calendar. The Dalit Concern Committee is conducting a Youth Study camp in Adoor Mar Thoma Youth Centre from 28 to 30 December 2018. All the youth are requested to participate in the camp enthusiastically. Study Book Exam, conducted under the auspices of the Study Forum, is scheduled to be held on 24 February 2019 in the respective Sakhas. A workshop on the Study Book will be held on 2nd January 2019 in Adoor Youth Centre.

Yuvajana Sakhyam Kalamela will be held at Adoor Youth Centre on 11th and 12th of January 2019. All those who grabbed the 1st and 2nd prizes in the diocesan kalamelas are requested to make certain their participation in this. It is time to register the Sakhas for the new year. Please ensure that all the young people in our parishes are made members of the Yuvajana Sakhyam. Care should be taken to publish the first list in the parishes on or before Sunday, 13 January 2019.

Wishing you all a Christmas of the Good News and a hope-filled New Year.

With love,

John Mathew C. Achen
